artistic with a pinch of wisdom

"Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life." Proverbs 4:23
Listen my child.. this is wisdom....
I love this verse .. we talk about it all the time at our house.. it helps make decisions....

Today this post is about quotes my heart believes in...

~ and some photos of my children enjoying Gods creation...

“As for that aesthetic appetency . . . it dies of inanition when beauty is not duly presented to it, beauty in words, in pictures and music, in tree and flower and sky. The function of the sense of beauty is to open a paradise of pleasure for us.” (Vol. 6, A Philosophy of Education, by  Charlotte Mason p. 56)

Then adorn yourself with majesty and splendor,And array yourself with glory and beauty. Job 40:10

We should always have something worthwhile to think about, that we may not let our minds dwell upon unworthy matters. ( "Ourselves" by Charlotte Mason p. 21)

Great artists, whether they be poets or painters, builders or musicians, have the power of expressing and showing to the rest of us some part of the wonderful visions Imagination has revealed to them. But the reason why we enjoy their pictures, their poems, or their tales, is because Imagination does the same sort of thing for all of us, if in a less degree. ("Ourselves" by Charlotte Mason p. 48)

Cod liver oil give away!

One of the best give- aways! Our family has been taking this oil for over 3 years. We love it. It's so good for you.
In my opinion if you were going to take just one thing with your food this is what I would say, not a bottle of vitamins.. this.. which is why i keep a picture of it on the side. I feel that it is so important, and not just any cod liver oil out there either.. Here is a great post not only about the give away.. but the reasons to choose this oil..

We can't have cake yet!

A few days before our littlest turns 2---

{ his mommy is sighing, and wishing for time to hold still}OH,  I have so many adorable photos of him...I grabbed a couple.. What a joy is he to our family.

Zephaniah Jordan, you are such a blessing, we love you
so much....

We get a great idea- lets all knit him a gift!
I found this for Davia to work on, and I have helped some.

Vania thought he would like a blanket for when he gives his "baby" a ride around the house
in the stroller.. she is knitting it in blue stockenette and will just make it square so it can be more multi-
purpose.. and Davia will make the edging nice on it... I also am helping with her project.
Azalia wanted something too.. we found this for her.. she did 3 in a short amount of time..
with barely any help.. she learned how to switch colors and the stockenette stitch quite well...
she wants to make more!
We are working hard to finish everything so we can have him open them up and have his cake..
I am sure he doesn't care if it is a week or so after his real date.. which was the 3rd.. right after groundhog's day, by 30 minutes and just in time for valentine's day!

Davia made a beautiful pair of mitts for herself- in between- so many projects!

So there you have it,  a few knitting photos- to show off all this yarn -that looks like a web of messes- turning each one into something magical...

A little something for everyone

This morning we read about how God designed some things for maybe no other purpose then
beauty..

"And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing.
Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable,
and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable.
Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise."

so, we read on about Greece
and and looked at art..
and thought about creativity.....

( in the photo is a dreamy cupcake
I knit up for my daughter's friend who had a birthday-
now, I need to make a half dozen for our house!
the first of a few photos to add here about some of the
knitting projects
going on..)

then we thought of what to make for lunch
and thought of the health book we are reading -
which talks about eating "they way they used to"
good food.. healthy food..
which made us think of Heidi..
since she drank whole milk and ate lots of good
cheese..
since that book was somewhere on our bookshelf
and I have not yet read it to my little girls..
we decided that once again God has directed
our school. We sank down into the couch
and soon were
back in the days of Heidi this morning..
everyone is wondering why noone likes the
grandfather..
and who was this little girl?

New years resolutions!

It's not too late to start doing things right this year...

 1) I found a devotional to read each day.. I am still learning on how to get on that right away each day..
but, I am making progress...  My 14 year old daughter had decided to be diligent at reading the book each day- it has a short bible portion and a good article, and is really enjoying it.... I went to the website and found more that I want to get started with..  go here to find out more

2) Our bodies are a temple - exercise needs to find a way into our schedule EVERY day.. we are making progress..  the sunshine today, even though it's cold... brought this on today.. and this post

( that I was going to write two weeks ago

when we took these photos-

yikes, now you see us in the RAW!  )

3) To cook even more healthy for my family each day..
if I had more time, right now, I would go into more detail of what I mean..
it is time consuming.. hard work, lots of dishes.. and takes thought to come up with 3 healthy meals daily
but, I know it's worth it, again, referring to taking care of the bodies the good Lord has given us.

4) To cut the caffeine.. partly why I didn't post til now either.. not only the grey clouds closing in each day
( moms get cabin too).
but, a full 2 weeks with no caffeine was hard.. now I am past that, and it takes effort to stay focused on this goal-
I smell the coffee that my sweet husband grinds and brews and adds fresh cream to before he leaves for work.. and I could easily got hooked again.. especially with the fresh cream...
but, it was not letting me sleep well, I felt tired all day.. So, it will have to be a treat for me from now on..

5) All of the things that I want to add to our school.. foreign language, arts, music.. more reading alouds..
we are making progress here, too..

5 1/2) I should throw in to keep on knitting, and photography too..
if I put either down.. I forget what I was learning..

The next post should be some of our finishing projects!

These are the things I can start with now..  and feel a sense of accomplishment..
now, if the sun could keep shining... I can do my goals much better!
